In 1993, when author Ben Elton was promoting the television adaptation of his environment-themed novel Stark, I remember hearing him say he would have loved to have had his book printed on recycled paper if only this was possible. Well, fifteen years on it is possible, but examples of it are few and far between. There is a Canadian edition of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix that is printed on recycled paper, as is the recent Thames & Hudson book Remake it: Home, a stylish guide to resourceful living by Henrietta Thompson. Of the recent crop of books about the environment, the only one in my local bookshop that was printed on recycled paper was this one.
