Sometimes I just refuse to play ball. At weddings, for instance, I will not give cash, purchase from a gift registry or contribute to a honeymoon fund. This is for no reason other than that I like shopping and am of the opinion that gifts ought to be a surprise. It’s fun to shop for a present when I love the bride and groom but it’s also fun when I don’t really know or don’t particularly like the bride and groom, for then I pretty much just please myself. I visit a Fair Trade retailer and choose something I think is nice. Hang what the bride and groom think - they’ll be drunk on love.
