While watching TV commercials last night, I was appalled by the push to buy everyday cleaning products that were laced with toxic and corrosive substances. Antibacterial handwash? Surface spray with bleach? As far as I’m concerned, antiseptic is for first aid, and bleach is for cleaning the blood off the walls after you’ve murdered someone. Our house is Domestos and Dettol-free, and I don’t think we’ve suffered unduly from the 99.9% of germs we can’t see. There’d be a lot of them, too, since most of the things we own - including the toys - are onto their second lease of life.

  1. I agree. Clean does not = poison. Vinegar is a wonderful thing.

  2. I so agree. What is wrong with good old soap and water. Personally I believe windows get streaky with cleaners, I get sick with bleach and there is nothing majorly wrong for my family with our own germs. It's in hospital that hospital grade cleaners are needed because people are not immune to other people's germs . Of course I will use something stronger if there is an outbreak in our house of something but as there almost never is I tend not to have the required strengths when needed so resort to things like vinegar or boiling water or metho (have you ever tried to kill a gardening cut with metho? ouucho). Love your succinct style of blogging. I don't know how I have missed so many posts. Cherrie
