  1. Wowwwwww... that actually looks a bit intimidating - how could you ever have the feeling of having looked properly? And whatever did happen to Mzuri anyway?

  2. I actually didn't end up looking at all - I was with a friend and she found the place a bit stifling, and as soon as she said so I did, too. Who's Mzuri?

  3. Mzuri was the chimpanzee (?) born at the Melbourne zoo sometime in the mid-1980s. There's a book about him in the foreground of the photo which leapt out at me (not literally)... apologies for being random and looking far too closely, but I was in such open-mouthed fascination that I had to zoom in! Definitely stifling - so many bits of people's lives all stuffed in together.

Going to look up Mzuri on Wikipedia now... thanks again for your blog Amy, it's fab!

  4. Whoops, Mzuri was actually the first gorilla born by artificial insemination, and now he lives at the zoo founded by Gerald Durrell in Jersey (how cool). Because I'm sure you were on tenterhooks...! Yay Wikipedia!
